Forages in the Cross Timbers
Summary of Research at the Stephenville Center
There are a wide variety of animal production systems in the Cross Timbers of Texas and Oklahoma that utilize forages and range as their basis for animal nutrition. These include dairies, beef cattle, goats, sheep and wildlife, not necessarily in that order of importance. Our forage research and extension program attempts to answer questions and solve perceived bottlenecks in all these systems. If you are a producer and feel there is a forage or other nutrition-related problem you wish our program to work on, please feel free to contact us at the station (j-muir@tamu.edu). If we do not already have an answer for you, we can start looking for one.

Some of the areas we have already begun looking at are described below. Click on the highlighted titles to read more detailed results from our published material. If you are not familiar with the metric system used in some of the material, don´t despair since it is a very simple and logical set of measurements.

  • To convert kilograms per hectare to pounds per acre, multiply by 0.893.
  • To convert metric tons per hectare to 2000 lbs per acre, multiply by 1.1.
  • To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply by 2.2.
