- Dr. Lovell is one of a small group of Extension faculty members whose primary role is Community Resources and Economic Development (CRED).
The CRED mission is to provide quality, relevant outreach and continuing education programs and services in community resources and economic development to the people of Texas.
Dr. Lovell´s primary assignment is Value added/agribusiness. The agribusiness focus includes all forms of business organization, including cooperatives. Dr. Lovell provides support with and follow up to educational programs and other referrals. His assistance includes one-on-one assistance to facilitate feasibility analysis and business planning with individuals and firms considering developing a new business or evaluating new product lines, expansion, etc. To maximize the return to his time, he depends upon County Extension Agents in assessing and providing their assistance to those with requests that can be addressed locally.
In support of the Extension Economics unit´s economic development efforts, Dr. Lovell contributes to development of grants and contracts as appropriate (which leverages the FTEs assigned specifically to economic development).

Earned the Texas Agricultural Extension Service´s highest recognition: the Individual Superior Service Award in 1991 "For outstanding achievement as an educator in risk management and crop insurance and as an advisor to public policy and Cooperative Extension Service initiatives in crop insurance," and the Team Superior Service Award in 1993 for "teamwork to develop and implement the cow-calf Standardized Performance Analysis (SPA) system."
